FAQ About Traveling With Teens

Do you really visit all the places featured on the blog?

Yes, we’ve been to all the places we talk about—either with our kids or without them.

Most of them are actually picked by our kids! They love traveling, and we think it’s great for them to discover how different the world can be.

Our kids haven’t been diagnosed as gifted, but we do know families in that situation. What we can say is: patience. They’ll want to explore every museum in detail, and that’s great—just plan the trip with them in mind. If you ignore their interests, your trip might turn into a bit of a rollercoaster.

Usually, yes. They love coming with us, and we love seeing how much they learn from each trip. It does make things more expensive, but it gives them unforgettable memories—and a broader view of the world.

They’re teens now, but we’ve been traveling since they were 7. For kids younger than that, we think staying closer to home might be more enjoyable for everyone.

Absolutely! While we focus on family travel, the info works for anyone. Sure, couples might enjoy a romantic restaurant or a quiet local pub, but you can also go grab a good doughnut at Krispy Kreme together, right?

Yes. If something didn’t go well, or if a place didn’t meet our expectations, we’ll say it. Always.

Yes—but it depends on the child. Our first time in NYC was when our kids were 8 and 10, and they loved it. Our daughter forgot a lot over time, but our son barely remembered anything, just that he loved it. On our second trip, he was older and got way more out of it.

Our son is into sports, especially football (soccer), and always wants to visit stadiums. That takes us to lesser-known neighborhoods. Some are beautiful—like when we visited Fulham and discovered its elegant homes. Others, like the walk to Tottenham’s stadium, were rougher. But it’s all part of discovering a city through their interests.

Except for one trip to Paris, we always share one room. It’s tight and not very comfy, but two rooms get expensive. And the kids actually enjoy the togetherness—even if the bedtime chaos drives us a bit nuts. Patience helps!

Depends how far we go. We’ve done trips from 7 to 20 days. Our first NYC trip was a week, the second was 20 days including Niagara Falls. For smaller cities like Porto or Dublin, 3–4 days is plenty.

We try to! We only include places we think are worth sharing. Since we work on the blog in our free time, updates can be slow—but we get there.

We use local government websites, tourism offices, local news, and yes—Wikipedia (cross-checked, of course).

Yes—we’re part of the Hellotickets affiliate program. You get the same price, and we earn a small commission that helps us cover blog expenses (like hosting and plugins).

Not as “tips,” but sometimes we include technical info (like how a skyscraper’s mass damper works) if we think it adds value. And we always double-check the details.

Yes! We have a section where you can download guides and maps. It’s growing over time as we keep updating.

We don’t need to love every place to visit it, but we choose trips we’re all excited about. If someone really isn’t into it, we usually skip it.

Mostly hotels. Airbnb is fine, but we like being able to rest and let someone else make the beds. Plus, apartments aren’t always cheaper.

We ask them to make a list of what they want to see and eat—yes, restaurants too! Then we organize the days based on their input, and we always leave some room to improvise.

Not really. With school schedules, we usually travel during holidays, which means high season. Off-season is great for avoiding crowds, though!

We plan most of our trips ourselves… and yes, we fall into a few traps too. Sometimes you just have to try things once to know! Don’t stress about it.

For big trips like NYC, we start planning 10 months ahead. That’s part of the fun! For closer cities, maybe 2 months. Flights and hotels often get booked earlier.

Yes, we reply to everyone—privately for now. The blog is new, so we’re keeping things personal. Many of the FAQs here actually came from your messages!

Yes! Coming soon (or in progress): Amsterdam, Dublin, Toronto, Niagara, Asbury Park, Paris, Dubai, and Bali. Some trips are done—we’re just editing content in our spare time.

If your kids are very young, big cities might be overwhelming. We started visiting places like Paris, London, and New York when our youngest was 7—because he loved exploring, walking, and sightseeing. If your kids are over 8, go wherever you want, just plan with them in mind. Otherwise, the trip might feel like a battle.
